Long before the 2009-10 National Hockey League season got underway, Jim Cerny was already deeply entrenched in his hockey work.

This season marks Jim’s third as the beat writer for NewYorkRangers.com, the official web site of the New York Rangers. As such, Jim was attending informal player workouts at the team’s training facility in Westchester, NY weeks before training camp officially opened in early September.  This effort not only led to interesting stories for NewYorkRangers.com, but helped Jim forge important relationships with the players that will aid in further enlightening the fans who follow the team on its web site throughout the season.

In August Jim also tackled a new venture, when he began to pen his own NHL blog.

Named “Rink Rap”, after his popular talk show from the 1990s, Jim’s blog covers all of the important topics in the National Hockey League. All teams and players are covered, as Jim relies on his 20 years worth of experience in the league to provide insider information and opinion.

The less rigid structure of a blog also allows Jim to share memories from his career as a broadcaster, journalist, reporter, talk-show host, and beat writer in the NHL, as well as deliver timely columns.

In addition to his writing this season, Jim is hosting the weekly “Rangers Radio” podcast on NewYorkRangers.com, as well. The show, which is co-hosted by MSG Varsity’s Steven Gelbs, draws upon Jim’s experience as a long-time NHL talk-show host (NHL Live and Rink Rap) and features interviews, opinion, and fan participation.

You can listen to “Rangers Radio” by clicking on the Broadcasts tab at the top of this page. And you can follow Jim’s written work by clicking on either the Articles tab or the Blog tab.
